Sekitar awal tahun 2009 lalu, Motorola membuat kejutan dengan menghadirkan ponsel fashion berjuluk Aura. Tak sekadar ponsel gaya, Aura benar-benar dirancang untuk menjadi sebuah masterpiece. Tengok saja layarnya yang menggunakan kristal safir 62 karat, yang menjamin anti gores. Bodynya yang menggunakan stainless stell, yang diukir dan digrafir dengan cermat. Meskipun fiturnya biasa-biasa saja, namun tongkrongannya yang spesial itu memang menjadikannya punya kelas tersendiri.

Itupun rupanya tak cukup. Belum lama ini Motorola melansir versi super mewah dari Aura. Namanya Aura Gold. Jeroannya tetap sama. Namun lihatlah tampilannya. Stainless steel yang membungkus badannya, kini memakai sepuhan emas 18 karat. Yang paling istimewa adalah, untaian 30 butir berlian yang melingkari sebagian pinggiran layar atas, dan sebagian pinggiran layar bawah. Empat butir berlian juga tersemat di tombol navigasinya. Karena keistimewaan itu, Motorola berani memasang harga US$3.700 untuk Aura Gold. Sebuah harga yang hanya bisa ditebus oleh kaum sosialita penyuka barang berkelas saja.

DESAIN

Bahwa desain ponsel ini benar-benar istimewa, itu tak bisa disangkal lagi. Material pilihan, dikerjakan secara khusus dengan presisi tinggi, ditambahi dengan aksen warna emas dan taburan berlian, menegaskan bahwa inilah ponsel stylish sejati. Meskipun sah-sah saja kaum pria menggenggamnya, namun aksen emas dan taburan berlian membuat Aura Gold lebih pas di tangan para wanita.

LAYAR

Bagian ini menjadi salah satu keistimewaan Aura Gold. Terbuat dari kristal safir yang diklaim anti gores, diasah berbentuk bulat pipih. Diimbangi dengan teknologi TFT berkapasitas 16 juta warna, membuat tampilan layar yang bening dan tajam. Namun bentuk bulat layar sedikit membuat kagok ketika menampilkan teks.

KEYPAD

Desain keypad memang menawan. Apalagi tombol navigasinya yang bertahta berlian. Namun untuk penggunaannya sendiri, keypad sedikit kurang nyaman. Tombolnya memang besar, namun bahan serta rancangan keypad tak terlalu ramah di jari.

KAMERA

Fitur ini bukanlah fitur unggulan di ponsel mewah ini. Hanya dibekali kamera berkapasitas 2 Mpix, yang hasil fotonya nampak tajam di layar, namun tak terlalu bagus ketika dipindahkan ke layar komputer. Bintik pixelsnya masih kelihatan. Fiturkamera juga tak dilengkapi dengan beberapa pengaturan yang biasanya ada, seperti white balance, contrast, effect, dan lain-lain.

AUDIO

Kinerja pemutar musiknya di atas rata-rata. Keluaran suara dari speaker cukup bening dengan keseimbangan nada yang terjaga. Keluaran lewat headset lebih prima lagi. Terlebih lagi bila didengarkan lwat headset bluetooth. Untuk pengaturan nada (equalizer) tersedia dengan opsi default.

INTERNET

Bukan dari kelas terbaik, hanya dibekali akses internet lewat jaringan EDGE kelas 12. Didukung dengan auto setting, yang membuat penggunanya tak perlu riber melakukan setting yang rumit. Kelebihannya adalah, browser yang melengkapinya, memungkinkan tampilan situs pas di layarnya yang bulat.

MEMORI

Tak memiliki slot untuk memori eksternal. Namun memori internalnya memiliki ruang simpan sebesar 2 Gb. Kapasitas sebesar itu memang membuat penyimpanan aneka file menjadi sangat leluasa. Apalagi dalam proses olah data, seperti mengambil dan menyimpan data di folder, berjalan dengan lancar.

KONEKTIVITAS

Dilengkapi dengan akses koneksi bluetooth dan kabel data. Untuk proses pemindahan data lewat bluetooth, berjalan dengan baik, file MP3 sebesar 4 Mb, bisa diterima dalam waktu sekitar 52 detik. Kabel data, selain digunakan untuk proses transfer data (mass storage), juga bisa digunakan untuk charging lewat PC.

Kinerja

Tampilannya yang istimewa ini dibarengi dengan kinerja yang baik pula. Beberapa fitur yang ada, meski bukan yang terbaik di kelasnya, namun mampu bekerja dengan optimal. Satu hal yang istimewa adalah adanya teknologi CrystalTalk. Dengan fitur ini, kualitas suara saat bertelepon data terjaga kebeningannya. Noise dapat direduksi.

Kinerja Baterai

Ditenagai dengan baterai lithium-ion berkapasitas 810 mAh, pabrikannya mengklaim baterai dapat memasok tenaga untuk standby hingga 410 jam, atau mencapai 17 hari. Waktu bicara hingga 7,5 jam. Dari hasil uji coba, baterainya mampu bertahan untuk waktu yang cukup lama, meski tak selama seperti klaim vendor. Itu juga karena tak banyak aplikasi yang memakan tenaga di ponsel ini.
